Basically, you should have all vaccinations which you need in Germany, too. It includes tetanus, diphtheria and polio. These three vaccinations can nowaday be given in one shot (Revaxis ®).

If you have to get more vaccinations, depends on where you stay in Japan, but they are not necessary. Hepatits A + B is among those. You can either get both hepatitis vaccinations in one shot (Twinrix ®) or you just get the missing vaccination, if you are vaccinated againgst one. If you are not vaccinated against hepatitis at all, it is cheaper to take vaccinations in one shot. It is very important, that two injections are given before leaving on the journey to get a sufficient protection (full protection after three injections is 10 years). The period between the first and the second shot is four weeks, between the second and the third one pass six to twelfe months.

If you stay in rural regions in Japan, you should think about more vaccinations. And you should look for informations on how to behave, when you a faced with hydrophobia.

Costs (at so called "Impfambulanz" of University of Frankfurt):

- tetanus, diphteria, polio-injection: 28 EUR
(In Germany, it is better to go to the family doctor to get this vaccination, because it can be deducted with your health insurance card.)

- hepatitis A+B: 66 EUR per injection
